The Northern Netherlands has a unique position in Life Sciences & Health, with ecosystems such as the Healthy Ageing Campus and the large-scale Lifelines project. This project follows 167,000 people over three generations and provides valuable insights into health and aging. Companies such as Syncom, which develops advanced pharmaceutical products, and QPS, which specializes in clinical research, strengthen the region's international position.
Did you already know that the Northern Netherlands is the "BioAnalysis Capital of Europe"? With the largest bioanalytical capacity and diversity in Europe, the region is an ideal environment for companies looking to develop new health solutions or make scientific contributions.
There are significant opportunities in personalized health care, early diagnostics and digital applications such as eHealth. Data analysis and genetic research make it possible to identify and address health problems earlier. At the same time, scaling up these innovations to commercial applications is a challenge, as is attracting companies that can apply these technologies in healthcare.
An emerging opportunity is the development of a nuclear medicine cluster in the region, supported by one of the oldest nuclear medicine institutes in the world. Thanks to collaborations with the UMCG, the University of Groningen and innovative companies such as Shine Technologies and the CRO TRACER, which are doing pioneering work in medical isotopes and molecular imaging, this cluster is growing steadily.
