Hydrogen to Business (H2B) promotes the use of hydrogen technology among energy-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Interreg 6A Netherlands-Germany region. The project accelerates the adoption of green hydrogen but also allows for low-carbon hydrogen and energy carriers (including methanol, biogas, and LOHCs) when electrification is not feasible.

Over the next three years, 100 energy-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will have the opportunity to explore whether hydrogen is a suitable solution for their energy needs. That is the goal of the new Interreg project Hydrogen to Business (H2B). The project helps entrepreneurs in the Netherlands and Germany gain insight into the possibilities of hydrogen, after which they can decide whether hydrogen is actually a good fit for their business operations. This enables entrepreneurs to make informed choices for a future-proof energy supply.

First, gain insight; then make the right choice

Grid congestion, high energy costs, and stricter climate regulations are forcing more and more entrepreneurs to make difficult choices. Electrification does not always offer a solution. That is why H2B helps companies gain insight into the opportunities presented by hydrogen. Experts and universities work with entrepreneurs to analyze which sustainability path best aligns with their business operations. In doing so, they examine various forms of hydrogen, hydrogen carriers, and existing technologies. The result is concrete advice that enables entrepreneurs to make informed decisions about their next steps.

“We have some great small and medium-sized businesses in the Northern Netherlands that are looking for more insight into the possibilities for using hydrogen in their operations. The H2B project offers a unique opportunity to do this together with partners in the Northern Netherlands and Northern Germany.”

Melissa Fuller Manager of Innovation and Internationalization

From Analysis to Practice

If hydrogen proves to be a promising solution, H2B helps entrepreneurs actually take that step. Companies can test a technology or prototype in a real-world environment with support of up to €20,000. Promising solutions then progress to a pilot project with a grant of up to €150,000. In this way, H2B bridges the gap between analysis and application, enabling innovations to be implemented more quickly in practice.

Working Together on Sustainable Energy Solutions

H2B brings together companies, research institutions, and innovation partners from the Netherlands and Germany. Over the coming years, the project will support 100 feasibility studies, 30 field validations, and 6 pilot projects. In doing so, H2B accelerates the adoption of hydrogen innovations and helps entrepreneurs take steps toward a sustainable energy supply with less risk.

As a partner of H2B, NOM works closely with Oost NL, TFM Münster, Energy Hub Emsland, NOM, FH Münster, Hanze University, Saxion University, Westfälische Hochschule, and Zentrum für Brennstoffzellen Technik ZBT.
