Business Developer Smart Energy Hubs

Gretha Boels

Born and bred Grunninger, as a blacksmith's daughter I was given 3 life mottos;

  • If not to the left, then to the right
  • You have to strike while the iron is hot
  • You can't break an iron with hands

I believe in combining technical innovation, joint strategy and local collaboration to make real impact. Making sure that plans actually work.

My approach? Pioneering innovative energy solutions for (business) sites and grid congestion issues. Not just thinking and talking, but doing - building trust, connecting stakeholders, breaking barriers and achieving results that inspire others to follow.

My strength lies in turning complex issues into feasible collaborations. At the Lage Weide industrial estate in Utrecht, I was allowed to play a key role in the development of the first energy hub in that region. Here, companies work together to share transport capacity, generation, storage and flexibility locally. A milestone in 2024 was the realization of the innovative group transmission agreement with grid operator Stedin - a new model that allows participants to jointly utilize grid capacity and create space for further electrification without waiting for traditional grid reinforcement.

My mission: to show and experience that energy transition is not a brake, but an opportunity for future-proof business parks. With courage, cooperation and a healthy dose of optimism, building energy hubs in the Northern Netherlands that strengthen both the economy and sustainability.

My hobby of cycling brought me very valuable experiences and encounters.
With Make a Memory I cycled up Mont Ventoux from Bedoin for our deceased daughter. With Team Henk we cycled the Tour du ALS up the same mountain from Maloucene.

In 2021, I was a cycling guide for the educational bicycle tour "Back to Westerbork". With 54 mbo, hbo and wo students from Germany and the Netherlands we cycled in 9 stages along impressive historical places from the Second World War. Very impressive. Freedom cannot be taken for granted, freedom requires effort. A theme that is becoming increasingly relevant today.

I am also a board member of the outdoor pool in our village, Zwembad 't Vlasmeer. We are working on a future-proof pool, a wonderful place for young and old to exercise and relax. During the season I set a good example every morning with lots of other lane swimmers😉
