The importance of prevention is becoming more and more apparent. We understand that it is a complex field with various aspects, from individual health to social and economic considerations. All these forces do not work in the same direction and do not reinforce each other. As a result, initiatives struggle to get off the ground and prove difficult to build into a healthy profitable business case. NOM is not under the illusion that it can 'quickly' solve these problems, but with extra attention, effort and support it wants to try to set something in motion.

Why participate in the NOM Prevention Challenge?

During the November 14 Roundtable, many angles and bottlenecks have already been highlighted. We hope that this will allow us to challenge initiatives and ideas to participate in the NOM Prevention Challenge. We cannot yet predict with 100% certainty what it will look like, because it depends on the number of initiatives that apply and, of course, the quality of the plans.

The winner will receive 10,000 euros to spend on marketing and guidance from NOM to hopefully bring the plan to market successfully. We will put you in touch with relevant parties in the healthcare field and help you to work out methods of measuring health gain in order to arrive at the right form of reimbursement. If there are more good plans, we will try to find a way to help those as well and direct them to the right partners.

How can you participate in the Prevention Challenge?

Submit a brief description of your idea (maximum 5 pages of text) by Jan. 1, 2024, including:

  • The essence of the product or service and what health benefits it leads to plus in what domain (physical, mental, social or a combination).
  • A description of the target group and the size of the target group.
  • An estimate of the cost of the product or service.
  • What to pay for the product or service and by whom.
  • What cost savings that leads to, and where that benefit lands (health insurance company, hospital, municipality, etc.), so that we can actively involve those parties in the follow-up as well.
  • It is also good to briefly name the foreseeable barriers/problems so that a solution to them can be actively worked on.

You can submit your idea using the form at the bottom of this page.

Assessment and follow-up

Proposals will be reviewed and initiatives that have described the above will receive an invitation in the second half of January to pitch their idea and answer questions.

A choice is then made as to which idea or ideas qualify for intensive guidance in further developing the plans, mapping the market in more detail and looking at the possibilities of making the initiative fundable.

Ultimately, a group of subject matter experts, including from outside NOM, will determine the "winner of the Prevention Challenge. That is expected to be by the summer of 2024.
