REDstack, a Dutch scale-up originating from Wetsus, is pleased to announce the successful completion of an investment round led by Pure Terra Ventures, with additional support from prominent investors including NOM and Easter Technology.
"Since the original EDR stack was designed some 50 years ago, the industry has been waiting for a breakthrough in ElectroDialysis technology. REDstack with their innovative design that provides, extreme reduction in energy consumption, extended membrane life, reduced maintenance and 100% leak-free operation delivers this breakthrough. We are very excited to bring this advancement of traditional EDR technology to the global market," said Nic Pannekeet - Partner at PureTerra Ventures. "Our investment will contribute to an automated production line, which will accelerate the commercialization and global impact of this breakthrough technology."
Investment
NOM strengthens its commitment to support innovative companies that contribute to meaningful transitions to sustainable and smart technologies. Sjouke Mulder, on behalf of NOM, emphasized, "At NOM, we are committed to strengthening innovative companies that drive impactful transitions into sustainable and smart technologies. REDstack's cutting-edge technology in water technology aligns perfectly with NOM's mission. With their recent establishment in Heerenveen and strong connection with Wetsus in Leeuwarden, they emphasize the importance of cooperation for sustainable growth in the Northern Netherlands. With this investment in REDstack, we are contributing to solutions for global water challenges while strengthening the regional economy."
The funding enables REDstack to accelerate the commercialization and large-scale production of its innovative ElectroMembrane Stack technology. This stack technology advances both ElectroDialysis and Bipolar ElectroDialysis technologies, with proven applications in CO2 capture, nitrogen recovery and brackish water desalination. In the future, the team foresees numerous new applications, keeping them ahead of the electromembrane market by developing advanced and cost-effective stacks.
Less energy consumption
Based on a rich history of innovation, REDstack produces proprietary equipment that, through optimized water distribution, significantly reduces energy requirements for ion transport - resulting in 2 to 3 times less energy consumption than comparable systems. This design ensures stable operation and reduces maintenance requirements for operators. REDstack's experts analyze membranes internally to select the best match for each application.
Paula Gonzalez, REDstack's new CEO: "This investment is more than just scaling technology-it's about harnessing the power of disruptive technologies to address water treatment, climate change and resource scarcity. REDstack exemplifies the potential when technology and purpose come together."
Innovative solution
REDstack's ElectroMembrane stacks are a key component in innovative solutions through which we amplify the impact of these technologies and address critical challenges on the path to Net Zero. By collaborating with all stakeholders, we achieve global impact, and strive to achieve "betterment of people, planet, and products." Through world-leading electromembrane stacks, REDstack saves water, chemicals, and money.
