Linking innovation from the Northern Netherlands to the challenges facing the Department of Defense
MINDbase Noord is the Ministry of Defense’s northern innovation hub. Based at Campus Groningen, MINDbase Noord connects innovative companies and research institutions from Drenthe, Fryslân, and Groningen with the Ministry of Defense.
From Technology to Application
Much of the technology of interest to the Ministry of Defense originates outside the defense sector. Examples include developments in the fields of autonomous systems, smart materials, energy, water technology, high-tech, and the manufacturing industry. MINDbase Noord searches for this knowledge and technology in the northern Netherlands and explores where opportunities lie for its application within the Ministry of Defense.
It works both ways. Sometimes it starts with a specific need or challenge from the Ministry of Defense, and the search is on for companies or research institutions that can offer a solution. In other cases, an organization has an innovative technology whose potential for the Ministry of Defense has not yet been explored.
MINDbase Noord brings these worlds together and helps promising technologies gain further traction within the defense organization.
Strong Northern Netherlands ecosystem
Drenthe, Fryslân, and Groningen possess a wealth of knowledge and innovative business activity that may be relevant to the Department of Defense. By maintaining a physical presence in the region, MINDbase North is at the heart of this ecosystem, ensuring close ties between the Department of Defense, businesses, and research institutions.
MINDbase Noord works closely with regional partners, including the NOM. MINDbase Noord is also part of the Defense Innovation Team North (DIT-Noord). Within DIT-Noord, the Ministry of Defense and regional partners collaborate to help companies in the northern Netherlands better capitalize on opportunities within the defense market.
