International entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly important for the Northern Netherlands. For that reason, the possibilities for advice and support for entrepreneurs who want to cross the border have been expanded. And that is necessary, because import and export present quite a few bumps.
The NOM supports businesses in the northern Netherlands in their international business endeavors. To this end, we work closely with Ynbusiness, Ik Ben Drents Ondernemer, and GroBusiness. Within this ecosystem, the NOM and these regional organizations play complementary roles.
Support is organized as follows:
- NOM’s portfolio companies receive direct support from NOM in the form of specialized and strategic advice on international business.
- Other businesses in Drenthe, Fryslân, and Groningen can turn to Ik Ben Drents Ondernemer (Drenthe), Ynbusiness (Fryslân), and GroBusiness (Groningen). These organizations serve as the first point of contact for entrepreneurs in their respective provinces and assist them in pursuing their international ambitions. In doing so, they draw on the NOM’s regional, national, and international network.
Through this collaboration, companies throughout the Northern Netherlands receive efficient guidance and are connected to the expertise and networks that align with their international ambitions. This leverages the broad regional, national, and international network of the NOM and its partners. This network includes, among others, Trade & Innovate NL, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), embassies, and Netherlands Business Support Offices (NBSOs).
This gives entrepreneurs, regardless of which organization they join, access to the right knowledge, support, and contacts to do business internationally.

Wim A,B., Account Manager Trade at NOM conducts independent advisory interviews with NOM portfolio companies on international entrepreneurship on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This can include export strategy, best practices or country information, market research, knowledge, network and funding opportunities for international business.
