Purpose & Mission.
UNITE aims to combine regional ambitions and capabilities to improve health, well-being and economic progress in Europe through digital innovations. The project encourages collaboration between public institutions, companies, knowledge institutions and civil society organizations with the aim of:
- Stimulating entrepreneurship and scale-up of startups and SMEs;
- Creating interregional European value chains within digital care;
- Strengthening Europe's competitiveness in digital health solutions;
- improving care access and quality for diverse populations.
Project budget & funding
Selected as part of the Regional Innovation Valleys initiative under the New European Innovation Agenda, UNITE has a total budget of about €20 million, co-funded by the European Commission.
Project period
The project runs from September 2024 to August 2028.

UNITE organizes open calls for cross-border digital health projects.
- The first Open Call offers a total of €4 million in funding for solutions that address key challenges such as personalized care at a distance and improved use of health data.
- Innovation projects can receive up to €1 million per project, with the participation of multiple partners from different regions.

UNITE calls are open to organizations from UNITE partner regions in Europe, including, among others, the Northern Netherlands (Northern Netherlands - here NOM is lead partner), Zealand (Denmark), Lombardy (Italy), Central Macedonia (Greece), Extremadura (Spain), Scotland (UK) and Romania. Each application must include a minimum of three partners from three different regions.
Activities & approach.
Within UNITE, several instruments are used to accelerate innovation:
- Financial support for cross-border projects;
- Agile piloting of selected solutions;
- Online matchmaking and collaboration tools;
- Training and knowledge sharing for digital health stakeholders;
- Encourage joint procurement plans and data ecosystems.
Results forecast
Through its collaborative approach, UNITE aims to contribute to:
- better integration of digital solutions into European healthcare systems;
- Strengthened cooperation between regions and sectors;
- Recommendations for policy at the regional and European level
