Pharmaceutical research company PRA Health Sciences opened a new laboratory in Assen yesterday. The Drenthe-based company tests medicines for various pharmaceutical companies and intends to use its new lab to respond to the growth in the number of expensive cancer medicines – ‘biologicals’ that need to be tested.
In the lab located off the A28 motorway the very latest technology is used to test blood, urine and other body material of test subjects, animals and patients. The lab will be employing a total of 130 highly-trained professionals. Many of them previously worked at PRA’s old lab in the centre of Assen.
Gerard Lenstra, Project Manager NOM Foreign Direct Investment: ‘Together with the new clinic in Groningen, this new bio-analytical laboratory will bind PRA to the northern region for many years, which means that the company will be offering good quality jobs for a large number of highly-trained professionals. This development means that the Northern Netherlands will remain an important centre for early-stage research for new advanced medicines.’
