NOM achieves excellent return on investment with sale of Catawiki shares

Permira puts 150 million euro in Catawiki. A great investment round for Catawiki with which, with Permira's knowledge and experience, the success can be further expanded. NOM stepped in 10 years ago, making it a shareholder from the very beginning.

Falling and getting up

A lot has happened in the ten years. A process of a lot of growth without profitability, winning awards (the Technology Fast 50 two years in a row), exiting markets, technological challenges and continuously scrutinizing business processes and the business model. From startup to scale up with all the bottle necks that come with it.

Investment manager Jeroen van Onna was involved from the very beginning. "We have learned an awful lot in these 10 years. Together with Catawiki we have experienced the growing pains, always focused on looking ahead which certainly required guts, daring and hard work. Catawiki began as a platform for collectors with a passion for special objects. Thanks to the auctions that started later, a much larger audience was reached: anyone looking for something special can visit Catawiki. At its core, the same as 10 years ago: Catawiki is there for unique people with unique desires."

Catawiki proves: it can be done! Start with an idea and become a global player. 650 Catawikians from 50 different countries worldwide offer 65,000 lots every week with a total revenue of €460 million this year.

NOM role fulfilled

NOM's mission is to support companies in the development leaps they want to take. This has worked well at Catawiki. The NOM remains associated with Catawiki with a small stake. To show there is confidence in the future and the NOM is happy to remain involved in such a beautiful company. NOM's role is thus largely fulfilled. And that is as it should be. Going through the growth spurts together on the way to maturity and then letting go.

NOM will use the returns obtained to help many new startups and scale-ups in the Northern Netherlands.
The passing of the shares at the notary will take place in early 2021.
