As a Project Manager, you’ll be the face of the region and the NOM. You’ll build relationships with national and international companies and help them discover why the Northern Netherlands is the best place to invest, grow, and innovate. You’ll open the door for new companies and attract investments and international activities to the Northern Netherlands.

Working on the chemistry of tomorrow
For decades, the chemical industry has relied on fossil-based raw materials such as oil and gas. That foundation is undergoing a fundamental shift. The chemistry of the future revolves around circular plastics, CO₂ as a feedstock, bio-based raw materials, and new industrial value chains. This transition is not only necessary for the climate and circularity, but also for the future economic potential of the Netherlands and Europe. The National Technology Strategy identifies green chemical production processes as one of the strategic technologies for the future.
The Northern Netherlands is in a strong position. The region boasts industrial clusters, seaports, renewable energy, agricultural supply chains, research institutions, recycling companies, and space for new industry. With these assets, the Northern Netherlands can grow into a leading region for Green Chemistry.
As a Project Manager, you’ll work to attract companies, investments, and new business activities that align with this transition. You’ll focus on companies active in circular plastics, CCU, bio-based raw materials, and other forms of sustainable chemistry. Together with the Green Chemistry Business Developer, you’ll ensure that new companies not only establish themselves in the Northern Netherlands but also become part of regional and European value chains.
About the Position
As a Green Chemistry Acquisition Project Manager, you’ll be the face of the Northern Netherlands for companies looking to invest, expand, or set up operations here. You are often the first point of contact an international company has with the Northern Netherlands. As such, you play a key role in shaping the first impression of our region and of the NOM. You build relationships with national and international companies and help them discover why the Northern Netherlands is the best place to grow. You are responsible for attracting new companies, investments, and projects to the Northern Netherlands.
Your focus will be on:
- national and international companies;
- scale-ups;
- industrial investors;
- demonstration and upscaling projects;
- companies active in green chemistry and the circular economy.
You will be the primary point of contact for companies considering establishing a presence, expanding, or making an investment. You will work closely with national and international partners in the field of investment promotion, including the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA). In addition, you will support the Green Chemistry Business Developer in strengthening regional, national, and European value chains. You will help regional companies and research institutions connect with international partnerships and consortia.
Collaboration within NOM and Chemport Europe
You will be part of NOM’s Internationalization Team and will work closely with Chemport Europe. Together with the Green Chemistry Business Developer, you will serve as the link between international business development, innovation, and economic development. As a Project Manager, you will focus on attracting companies and investments.
Your work will support the strategy of Chemport Europe, one of Europe’s leading green chemistry clusters, where companies, research institutions, and government agencies are working together to build the chemical industry of the future. Together with the Director of Chemport Europe, you will develop regional, national, and European value chains and partnerships.
The purpose of your role
You will help attract new investments and businesses that strengthen the economic development of the Northern Netherlands. In addition, you will contribute to economic growth, new business activity, and an attractive business climate. You will also play a role in fostering international cooperation and strengthening European value chains.
In this role, you will work closely with colleagues at NOM, companies in the Green Chemistry sector, Chemport Europe, industrial clusters, provinces and municipalities, ports and business parks, and research institutions. By connecting these parties, you will contribute to the further development and international positioning of the Northern Netherlands.
What do you bring?
You have a higher vocational education (HBO+) or academic level of work and thinking, preferably in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field. In addition, you have at least five years of relevant work experience and experience in business development, business development, or investor relations. An affinity for industry, chemistry, and sustainable technology is important.
You bring the following knowledge and skills to the role:
- Experience with account management and business development;
- Understanding of investment and business location issues;
- Experience with international collaboration is a plus;
- Familiarity with European innovation programs is a plus;
- Excellent networking skills;
- Proficiency in both Dutch and English;
As a person, you are entrepreneurial, business-minded, persuasive, results-oriented, proactive, and a team player. You know how to identify opportunities and turn them into results, build relationships easily, and are able to bring diverse parties together to achieve shared goals.

Employment
We offer a salary ranging from €4,854 to €7,148 gross per month (based on a 40-hour workweek). The generic job description for Project Manager B applies to this position.

- 24 vacation days and 21 ADV days per year (based on a 40-hour work week). ADV days can be used for personal development if desired. A number of ADV days is collective, this is determined annually.
- 8% vacation allowance.
- A year-end bonus of 8.33%.
- A net contribution of €45 per month for health insurance.
- An excellent pension plan with the ABP.
