The NOM – Building a Strong Northern Netherlands

NOM (Investment and Development Agency for the Northern Netherlands) is the regional development corporation for Drenthe, Fryslân, and Groningen. For more than fifty years, we have been committed to strengthening the economy of the Northern Netherlands. We do this by helping entrepreneurs with funding, expertise, and connections.

Our mission is clear: to sustainably strengthen the economic structure of the Northern Netherlands. A region that is circular, sustainable, healthy, and smart. We invest in promising companies, support startups and scale-ups, guide entrepreneurs toward international markets, and put the Northern Netherlands on the map as a location for innovative companies.

Liaison in the region

NOM operates at the intersection of entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions, and government agencies. We bring parties together and help build strong ecosystems in sectors where the Northern Netherlands can truly make a difference: energy, green chemistry, agrifood, water technology, life sciences & health, high-tech, and maritime. In this way, we work together to accelerate the innovations that contribute to societal transitions.

Together in ROM-Netherlands

We are one of the nine Regional Development Agencies in the Netherlands. Together, we form ROM-Netherlands: a powerful national network that helps innovative companies in the regions grow and innovate. ROMs bridge the gap between the national government and the regions and ensure that entrepreneurs have access to knowledge, networks, capital, and markets. With nearly 600 specialists and fund assets totaling over €2.3 billion, we are the largest venture capital investor in the Netherlands.

Working at NOM

At NOM, you’ll work in an organization that’s open, entrepreneurial, and independent. We’re not a traditional investor or consulting firm: we collaborate, connect, and pioneer. Here, you’ll make a direct contribution to the development of entrepreneurs and to the future of the region. You’ll see firsthand how companies grow, how innovations emerge, and how the Northern Netherlands becomes stronger.

NOM: working together on mission-driven innovation, for a smarter, healthier and more sustainable Northern Netherlands.

Would you like to contribute to the development and growth of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises that are making an impact in Drenthe, Fryslân, and Groningen? And are you interested in helping entrepreneurs navigate their funding challenges while simultaneously learning the trade of an investment manager? We’re looking for a Junior Investment Manager to join our Regional Funds team for 40 hours a week!

The Regional Funds you’ll be working for are FOM, MKB Fonds Drenthe, and the Groninger GROEIfonds. These funds invest in companies that contribute to a strong, innovative, and future-proof regional economy. We’re offering you the opportunity to learn the trade of an Investment Manager over the coming years. In this role, you’ll support the Investment Managers of the three Regional Funds. To ensure your professional development stays on track, you’ll be paired with an experienced Investment Manager who will mentor you in the field and help you develop your own style and expertise.

Regional allocation is demand-driven, so it’s not clear in advance how your hours will be divided among the Regional Funds in practice. You’ll coordinate this with your fellow Junior Investment Manager. Your area of responsibility covers the three northern provinces, so you must be willing to travel between these provinces.
