Working on the chemistry of tomorrow
For decades, the chemical industry has relied on fossil-based raw materials such as oil and natural gas. That foundation is undergoing a fundamental shift. The chemistry of the future revolves around circular plastics, CO₂ as a raw material, bio-based raw materials, and new sustainable value chains.
This transition is not only necessary for the climate and circularity, but also for the future economic potential of the Netherlands and Europe. The National Technology Strategy identifies green chemical production processes as one of the key technologies that will determine the Netherlands’ competitiveness, strategic autonomy, and economic growth.
The Northern Netherlands possesses many of the ingredients needed to take a leading position in this field. The region has a strong industrial base, including seaports, renewable energy, agricultural supply chains, research institutions, recycling companies, and space for new industry. With these assets, the Northern Netherlands has everything it needs to become the premier region for Green Chemistry in the Netherlands and Europe.
As a Green Chemistry Business Developer, you’ll work daily with entrepreneurs, research institutions, and government agencies to develop new innovation projects, value chains, and partnerships. You’ll constantly be on the lookout for opportunities to help innovative companies grow faster and to further develop the Northern Netherlands as the leading region for Green Chemistry.
You will work on topics such as circular plastics, Carbon Capture & Utilization (CCU), biobased raw materials, and other innovative applications within Green Chemistry. In doing so, you’ll support companies with innovation and scaling-up challenges and contribute to new value chains, new business activity, and economic growth.
You will work closely with the Project Manager for International Acquisition in Green Chemistry. While the Project Manager focuses on attracting new companies and investments, you will ensure that companies, research institutions, and government agencies collaborate on innovation projects, new value chains, and economic growth.
About the Position
As a Green Chemistry Business Developer, you’ll be responsible for strengthening the innovation ecosystem surrounding Green Chemistry in the Northern Netherlands. You’ll develop projects focused on the chemical recycling of plastics, CO₂ as a raw material, sustainable carbon chains, and biobased materials. You’ll spend a lot of time meeting with companies, understanding their innovation challenges, and knowing how to translate opportunities into concrete projects, consortia, and investments.
Every day, you’ll operate at the intersection of the business world, government, and research institutions. From this position, you’ll develop new propositions, bring parties together, and turn opportunities into concrete projects, consortia, and investments. In doing so, you’ll align with the National Technology Strategy, regional economic agendas, and European developments in the field of Green Chemistry.
Collaboration within NOM and Chemport Europe
You will be part of NOM’s Innovation Team and work closely with Chemport Europe. As part of the Chemistry sector team, you will collaborate daily with colleagues to further develop one of Europe’s strongest green chemistry ecosystems. Your work supports the strategy of Chemport Europe, one of Europe’s leading green chemistry clusters, where companies, research institutions, and government agencies are jointly building the chemical industry of the future. Together with the Director of Chemport Europe, you will develop regional, national, and European value chains and partnerships.

What do you bring?
You are an entrepreneurial Business Developer who identifies opportunities and actually brings them to fruition. You get energized by conversations with entrepreneurs. You know how to connect people, organizations, and ideas. You feel right at home at the intersection of innovation, industry, and the economy.
For this position, you must have a higher vocational education (HBO+) or academic level of work and thinking, and at least five years of relevant work experience. In addition, you have experience with business development, innovation, and/or project development, and you have an affinity for chemistry or chemical engineering.
You also bring the following knowledge and skills to the role:
- You understand the challenges faced by innovative companies and industrial enterprises;
- You will translate economic opportunities into concrete projects and initiatives;
- You will write clear and persuasive presentations, reports, and project and program plans;
- You have experience with public-private partnerships, forming consortia, and grant development;
- You have a relevant network or are able to build one quickly;
- You communicate easily in both Dutch and English and can deliver compelling presentations to a variety of audiences.
As a person, you are entrepreneurial, a team player, results-oriented, proactive, analytical, and curious. You navigate easily among entrepreneurs, researchers, executives, and policymakers, and know how to translate complex issues into concrete initiatives and collaborations.
Employment
We offer a salary between €4,854 and €7,148 gross per month (based on a 40-hour workweek). The generic job description for Business Developer B applies to this position.

- 24 vacation days and 21 ADV days per year (based on a 40-hour work week). ADV days can be used for personal development if desired. A number of ADV days is collective, this is determined annually.
- 8% vacation allowance.
- A year-end bonus of 8.33%.
- A net contribution of €45 per month for health insurance.
- An excellent pension plan with the ABP.
