Foreign Investments Europe Client testimonials Losan
Background
From 1964, the Spanish family business Grupo Losán has been manufacturing veneered chipboards for retail and industry. The first generation focused exclusively on the Spanish market. But the second generation, consisting of two young and ambitious entrepreneurs, wanted more than that. As part of their expansion plans, they went looking for a manufacturing location in North-West Europe. The location would also need to serve as a distribution centre for the Northwestern European market. Potential locations across the region were reviewed, including in Belgium, Germany and England. But without tangible results. That is, until the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) brought Grupo Losán into contact with NOM.
Question: We are looking for a location to establish a Grupo Losán branch for North-West Europe. Preferably in the immediate vicinity of the German market. What are the opportunities offered by the Northern Netherlands?
First steps
From the start, the focus for NOM was on Emmen, the city with the largest concentration of industry in the Northern Netherlands. In addition, the German town Meppen, just across the border from Emmen, was the home of a renowned supplier. NOM brought Losán into contact with the Municipality of Emmen as well as several other local parties, including EMMTEC Industry & Business Park.
Progress and result
The Municipality of Emmen was especially helpful, and the contacts with other parties also proceeded very smoothly. Losán was convinced: Emmen had to be the location for Losán Benelux. NOM then drew up an itinerary for the implementation. For instance, Losán Benelux was brought into contact with construction companies and engineering firms. The investment subsidy procedure (InvesteringsPremieRegeling, IPR) was also put in motion. The result: Losán Benelux started their operations in 2003 at a compelling location within a new business park in Emmen.
