American company acquires Norit
The American company Cabot is set to acquire the carbon manufacturer Norit. The company from Boston is paying approximately 800 million Euro for the company with a factory in Klazienaveen. Norit has been active in the US for more than 80 years. The company supplies 150 different carbon products and complete purification systems.
In total, Norit has ten factories in Europe and America and it employs 760 employees. Cabot has 36 factories worldwide.
Norit was owned by the British investment fund Doughty Hanson and the Dutch investor Euroland Investments. The company was founded in Zaandam in 1912, and 6 years later it acquired Purit in Klazienaveen. There had been a suspicion that the Drenthe factory was founded after industrial espionage. Norit played an important role in the peat excavations in Drenthe.
